School Development Plan Priorities

In school we are constantly reflecting on what we are doing well as a school and the areas that we could develop further.  From our data outcomes, pupil and staff feedback and monitoring around the school, we have chosen the four following priority areas to focus on this year.  That doesn't mean that we forget everything else in the school but these areas will have the most impact on improving standards across the school.

In 2017-18 our SDP priorities are:

Priority 1: Diminish the attainment and progress difference of our most vulnerable children

When analysing our 2017 data, it was evident that our vulnerable children (SEN, Pupil Premium, Free School Meal children etc.) currently do not make as much progress as other children in the school.  Miss King has been established as our 'Vulnerable Children Champion' with a  large focus being placed on recognising their needs as well as their next steps; keeping a working record of their termly progress.

Led by: Michelle King (Deputy Headteacher)

Priority 2: Raise standards of mathematics across the school

Mathematics continues to be a focus within the school.  Mrs Akers, our mathematics subject lead and  maths mastery specialist,  will be continuing to focus on raising the understanding of maths fluency, ensuring that challenge and expectation is high within each year group.  There will be a focus on application of knowledge as well as ensuring that the basics (especially times tables) are known and understood thoroughly.

Led by: Zoe Akers (Maths Subject Leader)

Priority 3: Embedding and continuing to improve our writing across the curriculum

As highlighted last year, writing continues to be a focus across the school.  We want children to be inspired and motivated to write, to understand where their strengths and areas for development lie in order to improve and progress in line with national expectations.  This year we are ensuring that our high standards in English lessons are transferred across all subject areas with children having a strong understanding of the key skills needed to be a good writer.

Led by: Catherine Hairon (English Subject Leader)

Priority 4: to raise the profile of science in the school, improving progress and outcomes at the end of each phase.

The school is working hard to raise the profile of science across all phases.  We are working with the children to increase their scientific skills as well as knowledge and understanding so that we are preparing them for the future; for jobs and technologies that aren't even invented yet.

Led by: Cathy McCullough (Science Subject Leader and KS2 Phase Leader)

Our School Development Plan is a working document which is shared and monitored by the Full Governing Body.  Each year the school review and evaluate it's strengths and weaknesses and from here we decide upon our priority areas for the year.  These are reviewed termly, measuring the impact of the actions taken.

If after reading through these priority areas you have some further questions, please do not hesitate to talk to us about them.  Also, if you feel that you could support us in any way to improve in these targets, we would welcome your suggestions or input.
