School Development Plan Priorities
In school we are constantly reflecting on what we are doing well as a school and the areas that we could develop further. From our data outcomes, pupil and staff feedback and monitoring around the school, we have chosen the four following priority areas to focus on this year. That doesn't mean that we forget everything else in the school but these areas will have the most impact on improving standards across the school.
In 2016-17 our SDP priorities were:
Priority 1: Raise standards of writing across the school
For this academic year we are prioritising writing across the school to improve children's application of the basics of writing: spelling, grammar and punctuation as well as to increase their stamina when writing. We want children to be inspired and motivated to write, understanding where their strengths and areas for development lie.
Led by: Catherine Hairon (English Subject Leader)
Priority 2: Raise standards of mathematics across the school
Our aim is for our children to be fluent in the foundation skills of mathematics, to feel confident in the basic skills of all four operations. We are aiming to raise the profile of mathematics across the school and to include cross curricular links where appropriate. Mrs Akers, our mathematics subject lead, is currently training in maths mastery. She is part of the Maths Hub and so supports other schools too. This approach will be shared with all staff through staff meetings over the course of the academic year, ensuring a consistent approach with good or better progress measures.
Led by: Zoe Akers (Maths Subject Leader)
Priority 3: Assessment
This year was the first year of assessments under the new 2014 curriculum and 'life without levels'. As a school we have been ensuring that all staff understand the new expectations of each year group and are now focussing upon embedding our knowledge and understanding; ensuring that there is consistency across the school. Finally, with new members of staff we aim to include assessment as a priority in their induction to the school.
Led by: Tracy Clements (Headteacher) and SLT
Priority 4: Middle Leadership
We are extremely lucky to have a very strong team of teachers at Kimpton Primary School. Our next step is to continue their CPD by training them in middle leadership.
This will include:
- taking responsibility for subject areas
- leading staff meetings
- supporting colleagues
- and ultimately ensuring that there is progress within their subject of responsibility
Led by: Tracy Clements (Headteacher)
If after reading through these priority areas you have some further questions, please do not hesitate to talk to us about them. Also, if you feel that you could support us in any way to improve in these targets, we would welcome your suggestions or input.
