Subject Lead: Mrs Harbert
At Kimpton Primary school we aim to provide our children with an excellent art and design education. We engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to participate in, experiment with, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
Through both topic work and discreet art teaching, children have the opportunity to develop their art skills in key areas such as drawing, clay, textiles, sculpture, painting, printing and collage. These areas are developed throughout the school from Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 6.
Art & Design in Early Years Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1
Pupils use a range of materials to draw, paint and sculpt from experiences and imagination. In Key Stage 1 the children explore techniques using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. The children are given the time and opportunity to experiment in art. They study a range of artists and craft makers.
Art & Design in Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2 the children develop techniques with more control and a wider awareness of art and design. They continue to experiment and record their observations and ideas through the use of a sketchbook. The children work with a range of materials to explore drawing, painting and sculpture. The kiln is used to fire clay work. Children continue to explore the work of artists and designers.
