SEND Provision (Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities)
At Kimpton Primary School we know that each child has individual and unique needs. Some children may require additional support for a short period of time and others for longer and with more specialist input. Staff and governors are committed to ensuring the highest levels of provision for every child attending the school and work hard alongside parents and the child to ensure that they are achieving today; ready for tomorrow.
The school aims to provide all children with an inclusive curriculum and environment where they can thrive. The staff have high expectations of every child and support them in becoming positive and independent learners.
Alongside children who have a Special Educational Need or Disability as defined in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice (2014), the school also provides a range of support for children who may need some additional help with their learning, behaviour and well-being.
The school has facilities to admit children with physical and other disabilities. All areas of the school building are wheelchair accessible and reasonable adjustments are made to ensure that all children can access the curriculum. For example, this may include some modifications for individual children, e.g. in Physical Education.

The Hertfordshire SEND Local Offer
The Local Offer lets parents and young people know what special educational needs and disabilities services are available in Hertfordshire, and who can access them.
The following organisations/agencies can be a source of specialist advice for parents of children with SEND:
DSPL (Delivering Special Provision Locally) is a Hertfordshire-wide partnership approach where parents, carers, staff in early years settings and schools, further education colleges, local authority officers and representatives from other agencies, work together as part of an Area Group, to ensure that there is a range of provision and support services available in their local community.
Kimpton Primary School falls into DSPL 7 and many of the courses that are shared with parents are arranged through our DSPL.
Harpenden Partnership Plus works in partnership with a number of local and countrywide partners and services. They have parenting facilitators and deliver a variety of courses and workshops on request. They are also trained to HCC (Hertfordshire County Council) Safeguarding standards and hold enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring) certificates. Hertfordshire Additional Needs Database is a voluntary register of disabled children and young people aged 0-25. By joining the register you can get discounts at places around the county (and beyond).
Families First is the term used in Hertfordshire for services that work together to support families who need extra help. These are also known as early help services.
We all experience difficulties at some point. Families First can help you find early help and information to prevent issues from getting worse. If you need more help than your usual support network - for example your health visitor, school, doctor or family centre - we can work with you and your family to create a package of support.
Families First is available to all Hertfordshire families with children under 18 (25 if they have a learning need or disability).
The School Nursing Service works together with children and young people their parents/carers and school staff, to provide a comprehensive efficient and accessible service which:
- Helps children keep healthy during their school days and for the rest of their lives
- Prevents ill health in children and the local community
- Supports children with medical needs and those needing medication
- Ensures that educational potential is not hampered by unmet health needs
- Monitors and supports families in relation to Hertfordshire Safeguarding Policies
When your child commences school at the age of five, care is transferred from the Health Visiting Service to the School Nursing Service. You are able to self refer to the service for support or a request can be made via the school.

PATOSS (Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific learning difficulties): Support in finding a specialist assessor for Dyslexia
AET (Autism Education Trust): Useful information and resources to support pupils with Autism and communication difficulties.
Communication Trust: Ideas and support for children with speech, communication and language difficulties.
