 Year 3 - Brazil  

A warm welcome from the 3 Brazil teaching team.  We are looking forward to getting to know you all and sharing an exciting learning journey whilst you are in Year 3. Our class country is Brazil. One of our termly topics focuses on this vibrant and exciting country so you will learn a lot more about it. 

Mrs McCullough is your class teacher Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Mrs James takes over the class on a Wednesday afternoon for the rest of the week. We are very lucky to have Mrs Dollin supporting us in class with our fantastic learning experiences and lessons.

Key information for Year 3 Parents and Pupils

Spellings  - These will be sent home each week on a Tuesday for learning. These should be returned on a Monday for the weekly spell check.

Reading  - Reading records should be in school daily please.

PE - Our PE days will be Monday and Wednesday.  Please come dressed in your PE kit on these days.

Recommended reads for Year 3

Here are some suggested 'good' reads for children working at the expected level in reading. They provide a range of subject and genre.

KS2 Reading Vipers

Viper is an acronym which helps our children to understand some of the key reading skills they are mastering for future life. 

V - vocabulary -learning new words and meanings

 I - Inference - piecing together information

P - Prediction - making predictions in their reading

E - explanation - explaining the why, what, how

R - retrieval - retrieving key information

We learn how to summarise information we have read to help make notes, gather information and as part of the explanation of texts,

..Statutory Spellings Y3 and Y4

At the end of Lower Key Stage 2, it is expected that children will be able to spell these words and apply similar spelling rules to other spellings. In Year 3, these words are taught as part of the weekly spelling and referred to as 'Orange words'. We continue to practise the common exception 'Red words' as well, as these are a key element of confident writing.  You can download these from the documents below for reference and practice.

We follow the Nelson Handwriting Scheme. Here are the Year 3 and 4 spellings written using the correct joins to support you with home learning.
