RE
We want children at Kimpton to be educated about the different religions of the world. However, with an ever-growing percentage of the population identifying as non-religious, we believe that teaching these religions through the lens of how followers view the world is vital in getting our children ready for tomorrow.
Our children come with us on a journey to become global citizens, who can be understanding and challenging towards the worldviews of those around them, as well as their own worldviews. We believe that learning about religions provides an opportunity for our children to develop respect for all, through questioning the beliefs of themselves and others.
RE at Kimpton covers eight main areas: beliefs and practices, sources of wisdom, symbols and actions, prayer, worship and reflection, identity and belonging, ultimate questions, human responsibility and values, and justice and fairness.
"This was first granted in 1944 when curricular RE was called ‘Religious Instruction’ and carried with it connotations of induction into the Christian faith. RE is very different now – open, broad and exploring a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. In the UK, parents still have the right to withdraw their children from RE on the grounds that they wish to provide their own RE. This provision will be the parents’ responsibility. This right of withdrawal exists for all pupils in all types of school, including schools with and without a religious designation. Students aged 18 or over have the right to withdraw themselves from RE. Parents also have the right to withdraw their child from part of RE, and can do so without giving any explanation."
